Designed by Matyas Architects, Brick Veil House is a striking residential project that perfectly balances intimate, private spaces with a bold street presence. True to its name, the home is defined by a spectacular masonry facade that acts as a permeable screen, filtering natural light while providing a calm, sheltered sanctuary for the residents within.
To execute this highly detailed architectural vision, the material selection was paramount. Krause Emperor Bricks in the Heritage Red blend were chosen to anchor the design. The elongated profile of the Emperor shape emphasizes the linear elegance of the home, while the rich, traditional tones of the handmade clay bring a profound sense of warmth and permanence to the contemporary architecture.
"A defining feature of the home is the monumental brick veil – a continuous, perforated outer layer that wraps around the entire residence. Constructed from slender Krause bricks in a rich heritage red, its lattice pattern acts as a brise soleil, offering both shade and privacy from the street."
A standout feature of the project is the seamless integration of fluid, sweeping lines. To achieve these smooth architectural transitions, we supplied a series of custom curved bricks, matching the Emperors in our Heritage Red blend. These bespoke pieces allow the brickwork to wrap effortlessly around the home’s features, elevating the facade from a traditional wall into a dynamic, sculptural object.
