Hotham House is a masterclass in textural depth and spatial delight. A thoughtfully curated palette of honest, natural materials – anchored by the distinctive, elongated profile of Krause Empress Bricks – grounds the daily experience of the home, creating spaces that are beautifully robust and full of unexpected surprises.
At the heart of the project, the original brick cottage has been carefully retained to form the solid, sheltering core of the design. From this steadfast centre, a series of contemporary pavilion ‘wings’ gracefully extend into the site, establishing a dynamic architectural dialogue between the heritage structure and the modern additions.
This deliberate spatial arrangement ensures that from every vantage point, the lush garden is effortlessly brought inside, completely dissolving the boundary between the built environment and the natural landscape. It offers an intimate and highly visceral way of interacting with the outdoors, supported by a beautifully textured masonry core that delivers incredible warmth and timeless durability.
