Set on a generous 3,000-square-metre site, Heirloom is a masterful reimagining of a fire-damaged 1903 heritage bungalow. Designed in collaboration by Trotta Architecture and Litera Design, the project transforms an unlikely prospect into a layered, sculptural family home that beautifully balances historic permanence with contemporary generosity. To bridge the gap between the restored cottage and the light-filled new additions, the design team relied on a highly considered, restrained material palette.
Central to this transition is the striking use of our Krause Imperial Bricks in a soft Ghost blend. As our grandest profile brick with dimensions of 465 x 105 x 45mm, the Imperial format creates sweeping horizontal lines that visually anchor the home’s bold new volumes – including a dramatic pitched off-form concrete roof.

The rich, earthy texture of the blonde clay serves to unify the distinct zones of the property, offering a sense of continuity as you move from the historic front rooms to the modern entertainer’s dream at the rear.

The home’s entry facade is adorned with Krause Emperor Bricks in Ghost, complementing the black-stained timber and textured materials on the home’s exterior.
