Situated in the heart of Sydney’s Elizabeth Bay, Billyard Ave is a breathtaking multi-residential project that perfectly compliments the area’s rich architectural heritage.
Designed by SJB Architects, the building features a sweeping scalloped facade that brings a timeless, rhythmic energy to the streetscape.
To create a contemporary building that felt at home among the established fabric of Elizabeth Bay, the design required a material with an authentic, handmade character. The architectural intent was to craft a long-living, durable building that would stand the test of time and provide inspiration for future generations.
To bring this sweeping, scalloped vision to life, we worked closely with the team at SJB to develop custom R300mm curved bricks, which combine seamlessly with our long-format Emperor and Empress profiles to create a highly textured, dynamic exterior. Because each Krause brick is handmade, no two are exactly alike. This natural variation brings an organic warmth to the curves of the building. This texture plays a crucial role in how the architecture interacts with its environment – as the sunlight hits the custom rounded brickwork, the character and texture of the facade completely transform, allowing the building to hold the light in a spectacular way.The result is a cohesive, highly bespoke material palette and an incredible execution of architectural vision.
