Set amongst the rolling hills of Cape Schanck in the Mornington Peninsula is this unique family home and beach-side refuge. Designed by multi-disciplinary practice Studio Goss, this stunning home is a celebration of minimalism and intelligent design that features handmade Krause Bricks both inside and out.
“Conceptually, we approached Cape Schanck House as a vessel to capture views and accept and manipulate daylight,’ said David Goss, director at Studio Goss. “The resulting design is expressed through a series of blank, abstract forms, animated by the play of light.”
Nestled amongst a vast opening of mature pine trees, the home’s 4-bedroom plus guest wing layout ensures breathtaking views of Bushranger’s Bay - utilising materials like Krause Bricks, timber, terrazzo and stone to seamlessly marry the interior with its natural surrounding.
By dividing into two spacious pavilions joined by a subtle corridor, the home is designed to cater for family, children and guests. Though the guest/children’s wing can be closed off entirely, this component is thoughtfully considered to ensure a sense of warmth and intimacy is felt in what could otherwise feel like an empty, quiet space.
With mixed materials used intelligently throughout, the home is as spectacular as it is practical. With communal spaces for connection, floor-to-ceiling windows allowing natural light to flood, and blackbutt timber used in key areas - this modern, minimalist home exudes comfort and grandeur in equal measure. Custom lighting design by Articolo Studios throughout the home adds to the luxurious feel and refined aesthetic.
No amount of detail is lost in this home, the space is equipped with cutting-edge tuneable white technology. Archello.com elaborates - “This innovative feature seamlessly adjusts the colour temperature of white light to mimic the natural shifts in sunlight throughout the day, offering a host of wellness benefits, including the ability to influence and restore your body's circadian rhythm.”
Designer David Goss describes the space aptly: “It feels casual for such a highly choreographed sequence of spaces, and I think that’s because nothing’s too polished – there’s texture and imperfection.”
