The Transformative Power of a Neutral Brick: Krause Bricks in Ghost

The Krause Bricks range has no shortage of variety when it comes to shape, size, texture or colour, but we would be remiss to not mention a favourite when it comes to projects requiring a modern, yet timeless neutral: the Krause Emperor Bricks in Ghost.

This true neutral tonal suits a variety of builds, but lends especially well to those with an elevated coastal aesthetic and contemporary or classic stately designs.

Each and every Krause Brick is handmade in Stawell, Victoria for a bespoke finish, meaning no two decorative bricks are perfectly identical. Every brick plays a part in delivering a truly unique, personalised design.

Take a look below at some of our recent projects that feature the neutral Ghost brick finish.

1. Decorative Brick-work in Habitat Easy Street:

Habitat’s Easy Street in Northern NSW’s Byron Bay blends residential and retail spaces for a village-like location where residents and visitors alike can stay, eat, work and play.

Given the sub-tropical location, it was essential that any prominently featured brickwork was capable of harmoniously blending in with the views, lush greenery and expansive landscaping featured throughout the project.

That’s where the custom-made Ghost decorative brick comes in; its neutral hue helped create a soft, inviting warmth which effortlessly complemented the concrete, steel and timber features in the build.

This brick style both enhanced and contrasted against different elements of Easy Street for an immersive and inviting finish.

The “hit and miss” style of the brickwork added depth and dimension that was not purely for aesthetic purposes, but also allowed for captivating views and essential natural light, while enabling privacy where needed.

Given all of the meticulous considerations and clever material choices, it’s no wonder this project, designed by DFJ Architects, recently won the Australian Institute of Architects Award for Commercial Architecture!

2. Custom-made Krause Bricks in Alba Clovelly Beach House:

Another build that has heavily featured our pale, neural palette of decorative bricks is the Albra Beach House in Clovelly Beach, NSW.

This project was a family home renewal, brought to life by the studioplusthree design team. They utilised a thoughtful and considered natural (and largely neutral) material palette to better pay home to the organic, oceanic setting.

Studioplusthree’s architectural vision required Krause Bricks to create a custom, bespoke brick shape specifically for the home.

The resulting Krause Bricks shape accentuated and integrated design elements and features of the home and unified the interior and exterior living areas (while also contrasting beautifully against the blackbutt timber and white aggregate-flecked concrete floor).

This custom-made brick also added a unique touch to the home, in a way that only a bespoke custom-made brick can!

The Power of Neutral Bricks

Neutral bricks hold timeless appeal, making them the perfect choice for “refreshing” a home seeking a contemporary or classic update, renovating or new design projects.

These custom, handmade bricks can be featured indoors and/or outdoors to create seamless and harmonious living spaces that blend in, or as special decorative features that make a statement and stand out for all the right reasons!

Custom-made Decorative Bricks & Sustainability

Many of our residential and commercial projects are concerned about sustainability when it comes to material usage and building emissions. That’s why we have worked hard to ensure all Krause Bricks are carbon offset for a more conscious and sustainable choice.
